bio:
I do what I can to seek out new and interesting projects to work on and people to collaborate with. In the last year or so, my career has taken a shift from short form promo editing. Lately, I’ve been focusing more on television shows and features. Below is a description of my career over the past several years...
I graduated from Purchase College in 1998 with a BFA in Film Production. After a brief stint in production for Channel 13, I was recruited by an Avid rental company to be trained as a NYC field technician. This was an intense education that immersed me head first into every technical detail of nonlinear editing for broadcast and film. I eventually became an Avid Certified Support Representative (ACSR).
This proved to be a great introduction to post production. Through a couple of different companies, I become personally acquainted with editorial facilities all over Manhattan. I supported clients from HBO and Miramax, to film directors Frank Oz and Ron Howard.
In 2000, I left my role as a technician to join Blue Sky Studios as an assistant editor on the film Ice Age under editor John Carnochan. I spent 2 years on the film, and went on to produce supplemental material for the DVD release, edited some commercials for the film, and assisted on the short Gone Nutty. Both the feature and the short went on to be nominated for Academy Awards.
With the completion of the film, I decided to throw my hat in the ring as a freelance editor. In the last several years, I’ve worked on broadcast and commercial campaigns for a number of clients including Showtime, Discovery, ABC, Rockstar Games, Wendy's, Logo, A&E, and many others. More recently, I’ve begun editing long format shows for networks like A&E, Travel Channel, TLC, VH1, and Fuse.
This summer, I completed my first feature as Supervising Editor on Courting Condi directed by Sebastian Doggart. This was a documentary/drama/musical/comedy that tracked one man’s journey accross the country to win the heart of Condoleezza Rice. It was edited from nearly 400 hours of footage and is currently seeking distribution. The official site for the film can be found here.
I also spend a good part of the time working for The Criterion Collection. Since 2005, I’ve edited dozens of documentary supplements on a number of DVDs ranging from 5 to 45 minutes. I also occasionally step in as an online editor.
I’m also currently in post production on a documentary called A priest. A Father. This film is about my father, a former Catholic priest. Several years ago I started shooting interviews with him to take a look at the fascinating path he took along side his brother, who is now a Catholic Bishop. However, after talking to other former and current priests who attended his monastery another story emerged. One about the time and place that each of these men decided to become priests, and the circumstances that led them to leave. Shooting for this took us to Italy where he studied and was ordained, and invokes my previous ambitions to be an illustrator. The film combines the interviews with animated illustrations to help tell the story.
